“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way--things I had no words for.”

A Blustery Day

We're having an extreme afternoon wind storm today! It sounds as if we're under the ocean, with angry waves hitting the trees and tossing everything about. We're hunkered down in the house going about our day, hoping the power stays with us and listening to the sounds of the wind...

‘A breeze came wandering from the sky, light as the whispers of a dream; He put the overhanging grasses by, and softly stooped to kiss the stream, The pretty stream, the flattered stream, The shy, yet unreluctant stream of wind' -
William Cullen Bryant

Oh, the Bounty

I stopped by The National Heirloom Exposition the other day to check things out. It was a quick visit, right down the street from my house, so how could I NOT go? The event was a swift kick in the pants that Summer is over and Autumn is here. The bounty of the season was literally piled in huge mountains, it was quite impressive!

"In the garden, Autumn is, indeed the crowning glory of the year, bringing us the fruition of months of thought and care and toil. And at no season, safe perhaps in Daffodil time, do we get such superb colour effects as from August to November."
 ~Rose G. Kingsley, The Autumn Garden, 1905

"Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting
and autumn a mosaic of them all."
 ~Stanley Horowitz

By all these lovely tokens September days are here, With summer’s best of weather And autumn’s best of cheer.
 ~Helen Hunt Jackson

“O Autumn, laden with fruit, and stained

With the blood of the grape, pass not, but sit

Beneath my shady roof; there thou may’st rest,

And tune thy jolly voice to my fresh pipe;

And all the daughters of the year shall dance!

Sing now the lusty song of fruit and flowers.

~ William Blake

I wrote about the upcoming season 2 years ago, in this blog post. It pretty much sums up how I feel this time of year. O, Autumn, bring on the bounty!

A Sweet Treat - Mango Shortcake

Mango Shortcake

Fresh, ripe Mangos

Poundcake, Greek vanilla yogurt and a drizzle of Honey

Quick and easy and so dang yummy!
A cup of hot tea (or a tall glass of iced tea) and you're ready for a nice mid-day break..."sigh".

When Rabbit said "honey or condensed milk with your bread?' Pooh was so excited that he said 'Both', and then, so as not to seem to greedy, he added, 'But don't bother with the bread, please." - A.A Milne

A Wild Ride

Yes it was, 2010 was yet another wild year in my life. They all seem to be wild in one way or another. 2010 was one of the better ones, not perfect, but pretty good. It's been a year of soul searching and risk taking, rising above the little things and grounding myself firmly to the foundation I have discovered within. A year ago I wrote:

"As I have matured I began to look at where I have allowed myself to settle for things that come easy or by doing jobs that serve others. Even though I have done very well and accomplished much I was not faithful or loyal to my own nature. I now understand that I need to challenge myself to learn more, express more, and become more of who I really am".

I have made an effort to consistantly live by those words, to listen to my inner voice which is now luminous and clear because, after all, it knows the way.

A look back at Mama Roux's year!
