At my local Joann's I found a 40% off sale on designer fabrics so I added a few select prints to my ever growing collection of Denyse Schmidt fabrics.

A Quilt for All Seasons

 

Another quilt finish for me! I created this eclectic quilt from the left over fabric I used to recover our  living room throw pillows. The large floral print was purchased at Joann's and the colors immediately caught my eye. They were so appealing and comforting. With the extra fabric plus lots of scraps from my huge "scrap collection" I pulled quite an assortment of different fabrics that wouldn't normally go together but really worked well when built around the multicolored inspiration fabric. The quilt reminds me of the old, country quilts from long ago. I'm sure all the Denyse Schmidt fabrics helped with the vintage vibe! I made it nice and large (60" x 65"), perfect to use as a quilt for the couch on chilly evenings.

A Scrappy Quilt Finish

I started this scrappy quilt back in March using lots and lots of Denyse Schmidt bits and pieces. I was able to finish the 30 scrappy blocks and that's as far as I got for quite a while until recently when I got everything out again and finished it up. I love the finished quilt and have been draping it over my lap while I do a little crochet in the evenings. The really enjoyed the paper piecing and plan to use this technique to create more quilts in the future.

What's a girl to do with an ever growing pile of Denyse Schmidt scraps? 

Start a scrappy quilt, that's what!

I love Denyse's Any Way You Slice It quilt and have seen many versions all over the web. I referenced several variations including this one, this one, and this one. Each one of these quilters used the design of the original quilt as an inspiration for their own technique. 

 For me, I decided to use a paper piecing method just to make sure I ended up with crisp lines and a good square block. I simply used plain copy paper and squared it up to 8.5" x 8.5" and used it as my template. Along with my pile of scraps I also cut fresh strips from existing yardage so I would have a good assortment.

I decided to limit my selections to mainly blues, greens and reds so the finished quilt wouldn't be too crazy looking. This quilt will most likely be a keeper but I have so many scraps I could easily make several more lap or baby sized quilts for the shop. 

These blocks go together very fast. I can't wait to put them all together in some random design. This is the kind of quilting I can relate to and I enjoy immensely, almost no measuring, matching points or lining up angles. No exact placement of blocks either, just do what your heart desires. I hope to have a finished quilt by the end of the week, fingers crossed!

A Quilt for Nina

Mama has a new quilt! I created this delicious quilt using only fabrics by Anna Maria Horner, my very fave designer! I am an avid collector (insane hoarder) of her fabrics and have gathered a fine assortment of flannels, velveteens, voile, home dec, and regular old quilting cottons in shades of plums, golds, pinks and tangerine. 

The random patchwork design on both the front and the back gives this quilt a casual, bohemian vibe, just perfect.

The flannel and velveteen make this quilt extra decadent and oh so warm! The binding is a fabric by Denyse Schmidt which veered from the whole "Anna" theme but the colors were perfect.

Measures 50" x 55" and fits nicely draped across our King bed as a coverlet to crawl under while taking a nice afternoon nap on a rainy day.

Jack thinks I made it just for him, little cutie. A few accent pillows are in the works which will make our bed even harder to get out of in the morning.

Amaryllis, Baby Girl Quilt

Finished another quilt! This quilt was inspired by another one of my quilts, the Whirleygig Quilt. I just loved the fabrics in that quilt and wanted to use them to create something saturated with those warm colors. I chose to use a half square triangle technique to create a zig-zag chevron design, contrasting the greys with the warm reds, pinks and golds. It was a lot of piecing and lining up points but I think it turned out very pretty, indeed.

Most of the fabrics are from various lines by Denyse Schmidt but there is also Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner, Sandi Henderson and Lotta Jansdotter. The most special part of this quilt is the backing! My 90 year old mother-in-law graciously gave me some of her fabric from when she was a seamstress back in the day. I was delighted to find about 5 yards of this soft pale pink and white cotton fabric in the stash she gave me. My husband said it was probably at least 40 years old so I decided to give it a good hot wash and a tumble dry to see how it held up. It was gorgeous, soft and oh so pretty! 

I had originally planned to back it with the usual pink flannel, as soon as I got around to ordering it but then I was presented with a lovely vintage gift and it is perfect! I will be backing many more quilts with this fine fabric, thanks to Noni!

I'm Back in the Saddle

Wow! It feels awesome to get back to sewing, blogging and just all things crafty and creative. I've freshened up the look of my blog and added a few things to my long neglected shop. I'm focusing mainly on Quilts, Knitting Needle Holders and Bags right now but may expand to Home Accents  (Dish Towels, Pillows, Valances, etc...) in the future.

Central Park Quilt and Pillow Cover Set

Created with Kate Spain's Central Park as the main fabric and then I tossed in an assortment of designer voile, home dec and quilting cottons in purples, greens, golds and oranges. Backed with cozy Kaufman flannel in lavender.

Pooches & Pickups Quilt and Pillow Cover Set

I love the bold colors in Laurie Wisburn's fabrics and those little dogs are just so cute in the back of the pickups. Once I gathered the assorted fabrics I wanted to include I realized that most of them were from various Denyse Schmidt lines. Her blues were just the perfect shade so it gave this quilt a bit of a vintagy feel. The addition of County Fair canvas adds to the heft of the quilt. Backed with Kaufman sky blue flannel.

Fleur Violet Quilt and Pillow Set

How sweet and precious is this quilt and pillow set?  Perfect for a little princess! I used Paula Prass Botanica as the main fabric then surrounded it with lots of pinks, greens, lavenders and golds. Backed with Kaufman flannel in soft pink.

Cozy Zebra Quilt and Pillow Set

The focus of this quilt is Zebras!  The bright green background really makes those zebras pop! The fabric is from Pink Light Design, Menagerie line. Backed with Kaufman dotted flannel and bound with a wild zebra stripe, of course!

Strawberry Garden Stroller Quilt

October Afternoon, Fly a Kite charm squares, Sandi Henderson Meadowsweet and a few Denyse Schmidt tidbits thrown in create a precious quilt with a down-home county feel. Stroller sized, (39"x31") perfect for on the go, the bassinet or as an accent for the crib. Backed with Kaufman flannel in pale yellow and bound with some sassy Flea Market Fancy.

Zoo Bop Quilt

I'm branching out and trying to create more children's quilts since they are so colorful and pretty quick to make. When I saw the assorted Menagerie Fabrics by Pink Light Designs for Robert Kaufman I knew I had to use them for some fun and funky kids quilts.

I cut the print with black and white assorted animals on lime green background in 6 " squares and used a variety of designer fabrics to frame them. I used several Ta Dot fabrics, Kona solids and even some Flea Market Fancy and framed the whole thing with Ready, Set, Snow by Me and My Sister Designs.

I backed it Cozy Cotton Flannel in Diamond Green. Quilted in my favorite meandering design. Measures 44" x 40".

Such a bright and happy quilt!

Whirleygig

I recently made a sweet baby girl quilt with my new Flea Market Fancy fabrics! I added an assortment of various fabrics from other lines to mix things up a bit.

I stayed with the grey/red/pink/peach colors and threw in some Anna, Amy, Sandi and more Denyse. Such a sweet quilt without being too sugary.

I used a cool grey and white polka dot for the binding and backed it with one solid piece of LouLouThi flannel, sooo soft and snuggly!

I quilted it in my favorite meandering design. Measures 31" x 41", perfect for the crib or on the go! In the shop!
