This is one red quilt! I threw caution to the wind and just went for it. These 15" log cabin blocks are made from Valori Wells' Olive Rose line. I have seen many wonderful quilts blending red and turquoise, so I decided to combine the red, turquoise and brown pallets and see what happens. The back is pieced with 3 smaller log cabin blocks. As mentioned in an earlier post I LOVE log cabin blocks and one reason is this awesome tutorial by John at Quilt Dad. He knows his stuff! This is my third completed quilt and I am no longer intimidated by making bias tape or the binding process itself. Eventually I will need to tackle free motion quilting but for Big Red I just quilted in straight (kinda) lines. The binding is a snappy cocoa polka dot! Love it! I think I know a spicy little lady that will love this quilt, too...no peeking till Christmas!

What a beautiful quilt! I really like the colors you used. And perfect binded corners too!
ReplyDeleteI actually like the straight stitching that some machine quilters use over the swirling designs. To me the swirling stuff takes away from the quilting design where as the straight stitches goes more with the design of the quilt if you know what I mean. It is a nice quilt - well done!

Great color choices, Nina! I wanted to join Quilt Dad's wonky log cabin, there just wasn't enough time to join in, I saved the tutorial for later.
ReplyDeleteYou did an awesome job on this one, and I love your polka dot border.
This is so pretty! I have been seeing a lot of that color combination, too, and I just love it! You did a great job. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog! :)
ReplyDeletethis is gorgeous! love it!
ReplyDeleteWOW! That is a lovely quilt - I really like it. The binding is great! And, your corners are well done...
ReplyDeleteThe brown really makes the turquoise and red look great--tones it down without muting it. I like this very much. It's a fun block, isn't it!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I love the red and turquoise and the brown tones it down making it more earthy. Love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love log cabins, too. You've done a fantastic job with this one. ;o)
ReplyDeleteWow! I love this designer and you have done the fabric a great honor. Your quilt is fantastic. It seems modern but really cozy and for some reason it feels(virtually) like a box of chocolates, like pepermint patties and cherry cordials. Ok now I'm just rambling, lol.
ReplyDeletethis looks really pretty...great finish. the color combination is beautiful
ReplyDeletebeautiful! I love the colors, and your pattern. I have a few turquoises in my stash, I'll have to refer back to your quilt when I'm trying to figure out what colors to put with them b/c I am NOT good at picking colors.
ReplyDeleteJust saw this and was awed! What an elegant combination of colors and patterns! Simply beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks and Happy Thanksgiving!
