Jiggity-Jig!
The Santa Rosa Wednesday Night Market kicked off this week and Mama Roux was there, oh yeah! This was really the first time I have displayed my creations in person, giving people the up close and personal experience to get "touchy-feely". It was a blast! Aside from seeing old friends and meeting new ones I was able to talk up my little business to all who stopped by. The response was great. market goers were attracted to my brightly colored booth with tote bags and quilts a blowin' in the wind. The sun was shining and a jaunty vibe was in the air...it was all good!

A Quilt for Lily
I just finished a custom quilt for a baby named Lily. She is due to make her appearance in early July. Her mother chose the colors based on a duvet cover from Pottery Barn. The duvet will be used on the spare twin bed in the nursery. I wanted the crib quilt match the duvet so I purchased a set of pillow cases from PB in the same fabric and "fussy cut" the lavender and black flowers into 4 inch squares. I then used these squares in the center of each block and pieced it with various lavender, black and white fabrics. I really did not know what I would end up with but this baby knocked my socks off! My daughter loved it so much she has requested I make one EXACTY like it for her, except with her name across the top. I only wish I could have made this quilt for her when she was a baby. Oh well, she is still my baby so now I will make a custom quilt for Eliza Jayne, my sweet, 17 year old baby.

Mother's Day!
I have such a wonderful family! Each and everyone of them acknowledged the day in one way or another. Our oldest daughter is such a special mommy. She has three small boys plus she is working on her Masters in English. I really do not know how she does it all. To show her I was thinking of her on this day I made her a bag to carry around all of her mommy necessities. Made with the fabrics of my top two favorite designers, Anna Maria and Denyse Schmidt. I love it so much I might have to make another one for me, after all, I'm a mommy, too! Happy Mother's Day!!

To Market, to Market!
The Downtown Market, that is! I will be a vendor at our local Wednesday Night Market, beginning on May 26th. How exciting is that? This is a huge step for me and my little business, Mama Roux, but I thought "what the heck, just go for it". I hope to see many of you at the Market. So stop by and experience Mama Roux up close and personal! Wish me luck....

Lipstick tells all
Blooming colors!
Well, the sun is shining and things are looking brighter! I have recently adjusted my work week down to part time and it has made all the difference. I can breath again! I now have more time to do "Nina things". The family was most certainly getting the short end of the stick these past few months, but so were my nails, hair, clothes and attitude. I'm spending more quality time with the family and took a trip to the beauty parlor, which brings us to the attitude. Someone once told me that he could tell my mood by the color of my lipstick. If I was wearing red, I was having a good day, pink meant things were just ok, and if I was wearing no lipstick (gasp) then I was best left alone. Well, the past year I have been going sans lipstick...that's right, best left alone! Since cutting back my work schedule I'm making an effort towards my appearance and wearing lipstick (a nice shade of plum)...such a breath of fresh air! Plus, I'm getting excited for the upcoming local weekly street fair. I will be a vendor selling pretty things to all the pretty people! Here's a little sneaky peek at some things I'm working on. Well, I'll be back with more peeks and projects and hopefully a few yummy recipes...summertime is almost here, I am sooo ready, man!!!Super Groovy Batik Tote
